Started from the Bottom, Still Trucking lol
I was having lunch with my girl Tara, a friend from work, the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, and that’s how it started. We talked about our passions and Tara’s blog, “The Edible Bookmark,” and I told her I’d toyed with the idea of starting a blog but never did. When she asked why I didn’t, I spilled my guts lol telling her how there were soooo many fashion and style blogs out there already (after all, I followed a lot of them!), how would mine be differentiated, I thought. What do I have to offer or say that hasn’t been said already?! She told me I was overthinking it and I should just start! And with that, I got the kick in the pants I needed! I went home that night and started reading about how to start a blog.
Getting Started
Because I was nervous about going it alone plus I was a full time working mom of two with a hubby who was on the road Monday through Thursday, I asked two girlfriends if they’d be interested. That way, we’d spread out content responsibilities and that would ease the work load a bit. Planning for it consumed me (just ask my husband lol). I did a lot of reading, studying, learning. Bought a domain, chose a blogging platform, got a camera, and so it started!
Going it Alone
Before the July launch of “2lookbooks,” the initial name for the blog, both girlfriends had backed out for legit reasons. So…I had two options: proceed alone or give up the idea. I took a leap of faith and decided to go it alone. Too much time and effort had been invested. And from that point on, there was no looking back! As a working woman, I dress up for work and I take pride in how I look when I walk out of my house every day. I believe in putting your best foot forward and I’m constantly being asked where I got this or that, think shoes, dress etc. I absolutely LOVE sharing styling tips because when we look good, we feel good, it’s that simple. When you look great, it is a confidence booster and like it or not, your style automatically tells the world a little bit about you! So make sure you like what your’s is saying!

So on July 27, 2015, my blog post was published and that was that. Since then, “2lookbooks” evolved into “Tokes Take on Style.” Child, there are days when I feel like this isn’t where I want it to be, or that my audience isn’t growing the way I’d like. And I question why I started. But I know this is my gift. We all have a gift that we’ve been blessed with. This is mine. I have a passion for empowering working women through style and fashion. I enjoy it and I love sharing this with you. I am so grateful for your support. At times, I feel like I don’t know what the heck I’m doing but I keep plugging anyway lol Thanks for hanging in there with me. Thank you so much for reading, liking, commenting and sharing on social media! I hope to keep serving up easily digestible styling tips and tricks for you! Here’s to many more anniversaries!
